Linda Lou Ketchum, fourth child of the family. Born to Oren Jacob Ketchum and Margaret Harriet Thompson Ketchum . Her siblings were Jack , Mary Jane ,Donna , Betty, Bill , Howard , Carolyn , Patsy & Freddie .
Linda was never afraid to work hard, anything less wouldn't do. She helped in the rearing of her younger siblings in the small house on Cleveland Ave. in Wyoming, Michigan. As a teen, she saved money from her job and purchased a sink, bathtub and toilet for her parents house. Since green was her favorite color, they were a shade of sage green. This put an end of using an outdoor toilet and using a wash tub to bathe in. When the house on Cleveland was finally sold and no longer in the family, those fixtures were still in the bathroom. This house burned in an arson fire July 2012.
She was born on DeHoop Ave., one block over and (almost) never lived more than 7 blocks away from where she grew up.
She met and married Jay J. Londo and after six months of living in Burton Heights they bought a house on Burton St. in Galewood and there they lived for almost the next 41 years.
The parents of three, they loved to travel and took their kids many places.
Crocheting, Artex painting, quilting, beading, and crafting, were among some of the hobbies that Linda loved. She made many scrapbooks, before that became a hobby. She spent many years being involved in Camp Fire Girls as a leader, while the kids were growing. Genealogy was a 20+ year passion for her. She became an accomplished camper, when they bought 20 acres of woods upon Jay's retirement. They bought a travel trailer and spent a lot of time there enjoying the property and spending time with the grandkids.
After Jay had a stroke in 1990, he was her total focus in life. As he recovered she made plans to take him to Australia. He had always wanted to go there and when she was faced with losing him, she decided that they would go. They liked it so well that they went twice!
As many caretakers focus on the person they're caring for, Linda did and didn't keep tabs on her own health. When asked about seeing a doctor for herself, she refused. Her reply to me was, "If they cut me up, who will take care of your Dad?" She died doing what she wanted to do, living her life & camping.
Linda enjoyed attending church at Woodward Avenue Baptist Church at home and the Entrican Bible Church, while they would be camping.
Linda died 11 days before the birth of her first great grandchild. Now (as of February 2017) there are 12 great grandkids. She would be thrilled, as she so enjoyed her grandkids.
Mom is missed every day.
