Mary was nine months old when her family left Newton County and settled in Polk County in December of 1865.
Mary Wilson married William Henderson Oates on Feb. 9, 1888, in Polk Co., Tex.
They were the parents of 10 children; three died as infants.
Wm. Henderson Oates and Mary E. Wilson Oates moved from Polk County, Texas, in 1918, and settled in Weldon, in Houston County, Texas.
At her death in 1926, Mary Wilson Oates was survived by her husband, Wm. Henderson Oates; three sons, Ernest C. Oates, Elmer M. Oates, and Jesse H. "Jake" Oates; her daughters, Allie Oates McCarley, Addie Pearl Oates, Afolee Oates McDonald, and Ivy Belle Oates Ingram; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Frank M. Wilson and Edward H. Wilson; and three sisters, Elizabeth Wilson Josey, Margaret Wilson Oates, and Jennie Wilson Waldrep.
