After teaching a couple of years in a one room school house similar to the one she had attended as a girl she went to Emporia to attend a course of study at the Teacher's Normal School. (It was something like a teachers college.) There she roomed with Miss Zella Fought, also from Neosho County, and who later married her brother, Harry Baldwin. They had been born and reared about 8 miles apart in Neosho county but had never met until then. They married in Neosho County, Kansas on March 17, 1911 when she was 19 and he was 22. Their marriage lasted until his death, over 60 years later. Two children were born of this union: Glenn Baldwin Hunt and Martha Esther Hunt.
She was well known and respected in her community as a school teacher and later as the sales lady for Prestige Silverware. Her wonderful cooking was legendary, especially her fried chicken, yeast breads, and pies. She had a saying for everything and she especially loved stories with morals. Children of all ages loved her.
