Mary D. Pence,89, of 332 N. Chamberlain St. Gilman,died at 12:40 p.m.Monday, Feb.13,1978 at her home in Gilman.
Funeral services conducted Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Reilly Funeral Home in Gilman with Rev. Francis Deisher officiating. Burial in Gilman Cemetery.
Mary was born June 19, 1888 in Bentonville Ohio to William and Alice (Tumbleson) Guthrie.
She married Carl Pence at Bentonville, Ohio on June 3, 1906.
He dies July 1, 1947 in Gilman.
Surviving are one son Walter(Martha)Pence of Gilman, five daughters, Virgie (Gerald) Sapp of Watseka, Gladys (Emmett) Lain of Peoria, Leona (Amos) Campbell, Juanita (Delmar) Short and Doris (T.P.)simnick all of Gilman. She also leaves 27 grandchildren,63 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Nannie Schumaker of Xenia Ohio.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter,Barbara Pence, two sons, Leroy and PVT.Marion Pence and two brothers, Walter and Henry Hyman Guthrie.
She attended Bentonville schools and made her home with her daughter Doris in Gilman. She and Carl moved to Gilman in 1915.
She loved making afghans, quilts, knitting,crocheting, putting puzzles together and looming rugs.
