Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. A native of New Jersey, he won four Olympic gold medals and a silver medal in track events at the 1908 and 1912 Olympic Games. He also won seven national championships and set five world records. He was posthumously inducted into the United States Track Hall of Fame and the United States Olympic Hall of Fame.
