Memorial service for Etta Marie Doty, 93, of Morton is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 2nd & Taylor Church of Christ in Morton with Bill Schlabach officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008 in the Morton Memorial Cemetery.

Etta Marie died August 6, 2008 in her residence. She was born on April 24, 1915 in Matador to Jerry and Lizzie Birchfield. She married Tokie Doty in Vernon, Tx, on Dec. 24, 1937. He preceded her in death March 31, 1975.

Etta Marie graduated from Matador High School in 1933 and graduated from West Texas A&M University in 1936. She and Tokie lived in Sudan, Lubbock, Amarillo, and Morton. They owned the Doty Battery and Electric in Morton for 25 years until her husband's death. She helped organize the first Camp Fire groups in Morton in 1950. She served as their leader and advisor for many years. She was honored as an outstanding Camp Fire leader in the state of Texas in 1952. She taught Sunday School for more than 40 years. She taught school for 37 years. She was a member of Texas Retired Teachers and Cochran-Hockley Retired Teachers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, Jerry Jr., Robert, and W.K. "Rusty" Birchfield.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Weir and husband Rex of Rogers, N.M.; and Deanie Posey of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Sandi Blakey of Portales; Sherri Schaap of Clovis; Becky Tipton of Lubbock; Jay White of Lubbock; and April Ellis of Pewee Valley, Ky. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.

Family will greet friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Ellis Funeral Home in Morton.
