David was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:16 p.m. Sunday at the Union Hospital in West Frankfort, following the accident on Interstate 57 in southern Illinois.
Reports from southern Illinois indicate that there was a wind blowing across the highway, and at one point a grove of trees served as a windbreak. When the cycle emerged from the shelter of the trees, the wind caused him to lose control of the machine and he struck a guardrail.
David was born June 10, 1965 in Elgin Illinois the son of Eldon and Clarabelle (Kay Grant) Hanes.
He attended Gilman High School and graduated with the class of 1983.He Had completed one year of study at Southern Illinois university, and was employed as a janitor on the SIU campus at Carterville.
He is survived by his mother Kay; a twin brother, Douglas D. Hanes of Gilman and several aunts and uncles and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
