Thomas Barber Stivers was the son of John and Phebe (Barber) Stivers and was named for his grandfather, Thomas Barber. He was born in what was then Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey, and came to Newport Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania with his family in 1806. Thomas's obituary [1] states: "DIED - At Newport, on Monday the 29th ult. Thomas B. Stivers, aged 16 year, son of Mr. John Stivers." However, the 29th was on a Wednesday; the correct date was Monday the 20th.
