LICHLYTER, Aaron D. – {from Johnson} A message was received today from Marked Tree, Ark. stating that A.D. Lichlyter was dead. The remains will arrive here tomorrow and will be interred at Shady Grove. Uncle Aaron left here several months ago on his annual trapping excursion to the sunklands of East Arkansas where he had trapped for more than a generation. Peace to his memory.

Aaron D. Lichlyter departed this life on the night of Feb. 13, 1899 at the home of John Kasinger near Marked Tree, Poinsett County, Arkansas. Uncle Aaron was on his annual trapping trip and had been in feeble health for some time and before his death requested that his body be sent back to Washington County for interment in the Lichlyter grave yard near Shady Grove. His wishes were followed and the remains arrived at Spirngdale on Feb. 15, and after appropriate funeral services at the Shady Grove Church his mortal remains were consigned to rest in the soil of the hilly country far away from the swamps where he had spent so many winter seasons. The deceased was born in Jefferson County, Tenn. on Sept. 13, 1828 and thought the long years had been a faithful observer of the Golden Rule. For many years he has been spending the spring and summer season here with relatives and friends but as the trapping season drew nigh Uncle Aaron would make arrangements to return to the "sunk lands" of eastern Arkansas, where for thirty years or more he had spent the winter season where the wild game ranged. Our acquaintance with Uncle Aaron dates back a dozen years of so and during that time, at various intervals, we have had the pleasure of hearing him relate many incidents of his life as a hunter and trapper. His was a quiet and unassuming disposition and no vain or boasting language was ever used in his narrations of those scenes and thing that have vanished so rapidly before the onward rush of civilization. He has fought the good fight and has learned the bright secret hid beyond the bright stars. Our old friend now rest in peace and his many acts of kindness and love will never be forgotten by those who knew him best. M.D.M.
