Listed as James B Adair according to Civil War records. Enlisted as a private March 10, 1862 in the Georgia 40th Infantry Regiment. Captured at Vicksburg, Miss. July 4, 1863, and paroled there July 6, 1863. Appointed 4th Sergeant November 1863. Shot in the back in a horse lot while moving his family from Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Wise County, Texas. His wife continued to Texas in a covered wagon with 9 children.
