ROGERS, Ark. - Gwendolyn I. Porta Cote, 82, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006. She was the wife of the late Joseph S. Cote.
Mrs. Cote was born on Jan. 17, 1924, in Bellevue, to the late Wendelin and Goldie Covey Porta.
She was a teacher for 27 years for the Catholic school system. Several of those years, she taught at St. Rose Catholic School in New Lexington. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in York, Pa., Eucharistic Minister, Sunday school teacher and Bible study group. She attended St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Arkansas. She was affiliated with the Rose Sunshine Club and the Dover AARP of Pennsylvania.
She is survived by nine stepchildren, Joseph S. Cote Jr., of New York, Jessie and William Cote of Maine, Robert Cote of Corning, Dora Ansel of New Lexington, Barbara McNulty of Lancaster, Kathy Rose of Massachusetts, Gilbert Cote and Donna Ogg of Georgia; numerous step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Merton Porta and Richard Porta both of Pennsylvania; and four sisters, Lillian Boyer of Pennsylvania, Margaret Linton of Indiana and Mary Ann Knoke and Rose Ann Martfeld of Arkansas.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 950 W. Market St., York, Pa. Burial will be private in Holy Savior Catholic Cemetery, York, Pa. The LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home Inc., York, Pa., is in charge of arrangements.
