James was a devoted son, brother, and uncle who worked in the coal mines at Island Creek, Logan Co., WV, to help support his family after leaving the Army after WWII.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he spent a great deal of his time with his brothers and nephew hunting and fishing in the hills and on the streams of Southern WV.

As the first grandson of the Nelson family, I am told that James was a devoted uncle that idolized my sister and me, calling her "Half Pint".

I spent many childhood days with uncles James and Zion fishing at Bluestone Dam, Summer Co., WV.

James worked hard, always had a car, and would take us on day trips to Lincoln and Wayne Counties, WV, to visit with family.

James didn't marry until very late in his life and he was never blessed with children of his own.
