J. S. Parrish, age 82,of 2342 Barber Road went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at his home. He was a native of Union County, Florida and the husband of Lois Hooper Barber Parrish who survives.
J. S. retired after 40 years with the Rail Road and was employed for 11 years with Winn Dixie. He was a member of Beacon Baptist Church and was a US Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. He was an avid gardner and he designed and built his own home.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Hooper Barber Parrish of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Marie Cardwell and her husband, Larry of Burlington, Gloria Smith and her husband, Jimmy of Burlington; step daughter and son-in-law, Sabrah Hardin and her husband, Billy of Jullian; step sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas Barber of Charlotte and Tony Reese and his wife, Cindy of Elon; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; sisters, Ovedia Mann and Ollie Dunavant both of Lake Butler, Florida. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Hilda Isley Parrish; parents, Rance O. and Amanda Andrews Parrish; sisters, Mary Mann and Vera Thomas; brothers, Steve, Wilbur and Elmer Parrish.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Greg Barkman and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
