Mary Anna Hutchinson was born in Huntingdon County, PA, March 29, 1827, and died in New Harrison, Darke County OH, April 28, 1892, aged 65 years and 29 days.
On Dec. 21, 1847, she was married to Joseph Harmon. To them were born 5 children, 4 sons and 1 daughter, 3 of whom, including the daughter, are now dead. Many years ago the deceased with her companion, immigrated to Ohio, settled in Miami Co., but soon moved to Darke Co., in which they have resided ever since with the exception of one year spent in Michigan for the benefit of her health.
About 25 years ago she was converted at Weaver's school house under the ministry of Rev. Adam Bowers, well known as a presiding Elder in the Cincinnati Conference. She subsequently united with the Methodist Church of which she has ever since been a consistent member and in which she has lived a blameless life. She has been a useful member of the Gettysburg society ever since its organization. Her religious experience was very bright and lent a holy light and
charm to influence, life and character. The Bible was her cherished companion and prayer her constant practice. As an attendant at public worship, she was regular whenever her health permitted and shrank not from taking up the cross public duty and testimony. Her last illness which was entirely free from pain, was the climax of a triumphant Christian life. Consumption wasted the body, but the soul grew on. During her she last days, she spoke repeatedly of the sweet religious peace she experienced and exhorted others to trust in her Savior. Death had no terrors for her but was welcomed as a heavenly messenger and her end was as calm and peaceful as her Christian life had been consistent and unwavering.
