Speas

TYLER — Services for Mary Speas, 75, of Tyler were held Friday, June 20, 2008, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Msgr. Joseph Strickland and Father Augustine Tharappel officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Speas died Monday, June 16, in Tyler.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1932, in Rockdale to the late James Ballard and Mathilda Scheihing Smith.

Mrs. Speas was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where she was past president of the Altar Society, a member of the Catholic Daughter's Association and volunteered at the Cathedral.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William John Speas Jr., in 1981; a son, William John Speas III; and a sister, Dorothy Thompson.

Survivors are four daughters, Paula Butler and husband Holley of Tyler, Christine (Wilson) Hicks and husband Wayne of New Chapel Hill, Reba Hill and husband Randy of Tyler and Reneé Brookins and husband Rusty of Tyler; two sons, Ralph and David Speas of Tyler; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Wilson, Jay Butler, Myranda Hill, Alysia Wilson, William Hill, Molly Hill, Josh Hill and Preston Hill; five great-grandchildren, Jerrod Wilson and Jaycie Wilson, Cailey Wilson-Perkins, Katelyn Hill, Carly Hill; a sister, Joann McDonald of Corpus Christi; and a brother, James Smith of Castroville; also, several nieces and nephews and devoted caregivers, Deanna Holden and Rosemaire Caldwell.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
