Joseph P. Meyer Rites Held Monday

Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 at St. Joseph's church in Pierz for Joseph P. Meyer, 76, who passed away very suddenly Wednesday afternoon while fishing on Pierz Fish Lake. He was found by his companion, Albert Bayerl, lying close to the fish house. The Rev. Robert Voigt officated at the rites with interment in the Pierz cemetery.

Pallbearers were all nephews, Harold Meyer, Cletus Meyer, Leander Meyer, Daniel Langer, Cornelius Langer and Michael P. Meyer of the village.

The son of Michael Meyer, he was born at Cold Spring August 17, 1880 and married Theresia Schaefer at Pierz in April 1907. With the exception of the ten years he lived at Grand Coulee, Washington, he was a resident of Pierz practically all of his life. He was a member of the Pierz Fire Dept for 35 years, served as treasurer of former School Dist. 14 and was the Pierz police for 22 years.

He leaves his wife and 9 children. They are Mrs. Connie Buesseler and Mrs. Roger Gallagher (Susan), Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Rod Vosgein (Clarice) Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. Don Lehto (Lois), Moses Lake, Washington; Mrs. Wm. Bolster (Evelyn), Grand Coulee, Wash.; Mrs. James Henion (Eulalia) Seattle, Washington; Arthur, Portland, Ore.; Zeno, El Centro, California; and Victor, Oakland, California. Three children preceded their father in death, Joseph, Eleanor and Jean Marie. There are 12 grandchildren.

All of the children were able to attend the funeral except Mrs. Henion of Seattle, Wash.

Brothers and sisters surviving are Jake Meyer, Grand Coulee, Washington, Mrs. Tony Hartmann, Whittier, California; and Michael Meyer, Mrs. Mary Langer and Mrs. Anna Langer of this place.

Attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Belles and Mrs. Jack Costello, St. Paul; Mrs. Barbara Groth, Minneapolis; Mrs. Agnes Meyer, St. Cloud; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Langer, Belle Plaine, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schneppenheim, and Mrs. Ed Schneppenheim, Wahkon.
