A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late William Riley and Jane Peterson Bailey. He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are:, Loammia Hudgins Howell; two daughters, Mrs. Porter Wallin (J.B.)of Mars Hill and Mrs. Joe Cherry (Chloia) of Shelby; seven sons, Joe, Ted, Bennie, Zack and Paul Bailey of Mars Hill, Grady Bailey of Flag Pond, Tenn, and Junior Bailey of Statesville; a half sister Polly Luttrel of Erwin, Tenn; 27 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-granschildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Madison County. The Rev. Carl Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Bright Hope Laurel Cemetery, Madison County.
The body will remain at Holcombe Bros. Funeral Home until 30 minutes before the services.
