Prominent Physician Was Father Of 2006 Miss Tennessee
Dr. Bruce Pancake, a well-loved and respected physician and surgeon in the Chattanooga area, died on Sunday, September 16, 2007.
Dr. Pancake was the owner of the Phoenix Center Spa Medicus located on Gunbarrel Road.
Bruce grew up in Gatlinburg and was valedictorian of his Pittman High School class. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He then attended medical school at the University of Tennessee at Memphis, earning his doctorate degree and board certification in otolaryngology (ENT) by the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
He served as lieutenant commander in the United States Navy, completing his medical internship and residency at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Va., later beginning his practice in Chattanooga.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Eakin Pancake; four children, Blaire Ashley, Debbie Erin, Brooke Elise and Alexis Victoria; mother, Mrs. Margie Pancake of Gatlinburg, and brother, Gregory Pancake of Charleston, S.C.
A private family burial will be held in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga on McCallie Avenue on Wednesday at noon with Dr. Michael Milton and Rev. Steve Wallace officiating.
The family will gather with friends at the church following the service from 1-3 p.m. in the church connector.
Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist; 5402 Highway 153.
