Harry Harvey Miller was born on March 31, 1903, in Patterson Township, Darke County, Ohio, near Yorkshire. As a teenager he helped his father on the family farm, laid tile with his brother Fred, and later worked on the railroad as a section hand for about 35 cents an hour. With the money he earned, he bought an old Ford automobile from his brother-in-law. He married nineteen-year old Lucille Mildred Kimmel, daughter of Isaac Nelson Kimmel and Verna Thompson, on August 23, 1922, at the Greenville Courthouse in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio. At first Harry and Lucille lived with his parents, but then he got a job as a car inspector, which brought in more money than his previous job had and enabled them to get their own home. Although they had four children together—June Evelyn, Doris Irene, Phyllis Leta, and Glendale Kimmel Miller—all died at birth except for June, who was born in 1924. On the 1930 census, Harry is working as a farmer in York Township, Darke County, Ohio. Over the years, he had several other jobs, including raising rabbits for Eli Lilly. They sold the farm in 1948 and moved to Florida where they kept a grocery store and he worked as custodian for Orlando High School. There Harry finally got to pick oranges off a tree just as he had wanted to as a small boy. In the 1970's, Harry had a heart attack, and they moved back to Ohio, settling in Hillsboro where their daughter June lived. Harry died on March 12, 1985, and Lucille died on June 12, 1993, in Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio. Both are buried in Ansonia Cemetery, Brown Township, Darke County, Ohio.
