Richard C. James
WANATAH -- Richard C. James, 60, a 50-year resident of Wanatah, died Sunday at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso, after an illness of eight days.
He was born in Gary, October 2, 1911, a son of Oliver and Clara (Rhoades) James. On November 22, 1945, at New Waverly, he married Thelma Wilson, who survives.
He was employed as a storeroom clerk for the REMC at Wanatah, and was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Westville Lodge 192 F and AM, Westville Chapter 133 of the Order of Eastern Star, and Wanatah American Legion Post 403.
Surviving besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Betty) Ann Hittle, Union Pier, MI.; a grandson; a sister, Mrs. Berneice Moser, Wanatah; his step-mother, Mrs. Cecelia James, Wanatah; and three nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Salem United Church of Christ, with Rev. William J. Bertsch officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be conducted.
Friends may call at Peek Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday and then at the church. Masonic rites will be conducted at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The family requests that memorials be made to Salem United Church of Christ.
