Dad taking a "Katnap" with my Angel Kitty Watching Over Him As He Sleeps...

Daniel Lewis Hoy was born in Cortland, New York on June 2, 1924, the son of Alfred & Ocie (Shively) Hoy. He passed away quietly at home in Penfield, New York on August 14, 2006.

After graduating from high school, Dan enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1944, where he served as a pilot. After the end of World War II, he attended the University of Syracuse and joined the Air Force Reserves, where he rose to the Rank of Major.

Dan was also a 60 Year member of the Elks Club of Newark, New York. Dan Married Miss Jane Hermenet on April 12,1947, the daughter of Adrian & Sarah (Boise) Hermenet. To this union 3 Children were born, Dennis Avery, Marleigh Ann,and Kathy Jean.

In 1963, Dan moved his family from New York to Omaha, Nebraska where they remained until 1969, when they moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania for a brief period, then again to Medford, New Jersey for 3 years. By this time, Dennis and Marleigh had gone their separate ways, but both ended up back in Omaha, So Dan, his wife, and daughter Kathy, returned to Omaha, where they remained until 1996. Missing their families in New York, Dan and Jane returned to the Rochester area after their retirement, and there they remained until the time of his death.

Dan enjoyed coin collecting, the long drives from New York to Omaha and back again, watching Syracuse play football with the University of Nebraska (Especially when Syracuse won!!!) and his numerous life-long friendships, but most all, he Loved his Family.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, William E. Hoy, (Stillborn on October 28, 1926), his sister, Virginia Eileen Hoy, Who passed away in infancy on March 1, 1928, His daughter, Marleigh Ann Hoy on July 14, 1976, His son,Dennis Avery Hoy, on January 11, 2002, and his sister Winnie (Hoy) Barnes, who recently passed away on June 1, 2006.

Leaving to mourn his death are his loving wife Jane, of 59 years; daughter Kathy (John) Eltiste of Omaha, Nebraska; Grandchildren, Brian, Brandon (Mandi), and Benjamin Hoy, all of Omaha; 2 step Grandsons, Michael(Kim) Eltiste & Christopher Eltiste; 2 Great Grandsons, Christian and Coleson Hoy, 3 Step Great Grandsons, Christian & Brock Eltiste, and Kadin Eilers; Sadly the birth of his first great granddaughter, Brynna Avery Hoy, came after his passing in April 2007. Also surving him are his sister and brother-in-law, Eva (Hoy)and Jess Haelen of Rochester, New York, brother-in-law, Robert L. Barnes (who passed away on December 8,2006) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of many friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, and all who knew and loved him.
