JOHN SCARLETT
A memorial services will be held Oct. 1 for John Milton Scarlett of Eugene, who died Sept. 18 of Alzheimer's disease and cancer. He was 82.
He was born Aug. 2, 1918, in Calgary, Alberta, to Arch and Dora Fitzpatrick Scarlett. He and his wife, Patricia, were married in Eugene on Dec. 12, 1941.
During World War II, Scarlett was a captain in the 32nd Infantry of the Army. He was an amphibious engineer.
Scarlett was the owner and general manager of A.B. Scarlett Inc. He enjoyed gardening, golf and cooking.
He was involved in many organizations, including the Dealers Council for GMC trucks. He also was a lifetime member of the Elks clubs, a charter member of Shadow Hills Country Club and the transportation chairman of Eugene Civil Defense.
Scarlett attended the University of Oregon and Oregon State University for a total of three years. He lived in Calgary from 1918 to 1923 and in Seattle in 1924. He had lived in the Eugene area for 76 years.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Cinda Connelly of Vancouver, Wash., Leslie Knutson and Paula Scarlett, both of Eugene, and Sara Gomes of Fall Creek; and four grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Scarlett family home. Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
