Thomas Bruck Darling was born June 16,1937, in Philadelphia to the late Nelson E. (b.3/2/1909 d.8/21/1961) and Freda E. (Bruck) Darling (she was known as "Babe"), (b.7/8/1913 d.3/27/1999). He earned a Bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959, where he was an NCAA gymnastics champion in the flying rings in 1957 and 1958. He received a Master's degree in physical education from Michigan State University in 1960.

Tom was an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Assistant Men's Gymnastics Coach at the United States Naval Academy. In 1966, he became the Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Nissen-Universal, a company specializing in athletic and gymnastic equipment. He served as the gymnastics technical advisor for the seventh Asian Games in Tehran, Iran, in 1974. Tom retired in 1991.

He enjoyed boating, fishing and woodworking, and loved vacationing in Stone Harbor, NJ, the South Jersey Shore.

Survivors include daughters, Donna Rae Darling (b.10/13/1961) of Annapolis, MD, and Jennifer Lu Darling (b.11/28/1979) of New York, NY; son, Thomas Wayne Darling (b.9/2/1964) of Fort Myers, FL; brother, David Scott Darling (b. 5/2/1943) of Warminster, PA; and sister, Susan Elise Darling (b.3/27/1946) of Philadelphia, PA.

Previously married to Saundra Rae (Warner) Darling (divorced) and Cindy L. (Hanburger) Herrell Darling (divorced).

A memorial gathering was held at the Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis on May 30, 2008.
