James A. Brown was born Oct. 29, 1925, in New York, N.Y. He moved to Vero Beach in 1971 from Totowa Boro, NJ. While he lived in Totowa Boro, he and his sons Jimmy and Billy were active in Boy Scout Troop 25 at Totowa United Methodist Church. His daughter, Susan, was a Girl Scout in the Troop sponsored by the same church.
He worked for International Telephone and Telegraph Company (IT&T) in New Jersey for many years and after moving to Florida was an electrician at the Vero Beach Municipal Power Plant for 18 years prior to retiring in 1991. Mr. Brown was a member of the Vero Beach Karate Association and a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Apostles (Episcopal) in New York City (where his father worked for many years), associated with Christ Episcopal Church in Totowa Boro, NJ, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Vero Beach. Jim enlisted in the US Army on 29 Nov 1943, at Fort Dix, New Jersey and served overseas in World War II in the European Theater. He served in the infantry as an Antitank Gun Crewman.
Family members: his wife, Dorothy; three sons, James Arthur Brown, Jr., William Edward. Brown, Sr. and William Edward Brown, Jr. (Adopted son) all of Vero Beach. Two daughters, Susan Anne Griffiths (Charles) of Haskell, NJ, and Kathleen Marie. Selph (Carl) of Vero Beach; one sister , Anna Stewart, of Branchville, NJ; 12 Grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of life was held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Vero Beach, with the Revs. D. Lorne Coyle and George Nenstiel officiating.
