Born in Kiszkowo, Prussia/Poland. He was nine years old when he traveled to America with his siblings. He married Marianna Opersteny in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas on January 25, 1880. Boleslaus was the son of Andreas Kochanowicz and Apolonia (AKA Martina) Pawlicka. The surname, Kotch, was later used by many members of the Kochanowicz family.
