He was born in Freeport, Illinois, and had lived in Bostwick for more of his life, coming from Green Cove Springs. He served honorably in the United States Navy. He had worked at the Georgia-Pacific Corp. in Palatka for 39 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Papermaker's Union at the Mill. He enjoyed fishing and tending to his yards. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Gail Spengler; mother, Rene Williams; father Clarence Spengler; and sister, Dorothy Gaunawich.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia V. Spengler of Bostwick; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Dorothy Spengler of Bostwick; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Ronnie De Loach; brothers, George Spengler of St. Augustine and Jack Spengler of Jacksonville; sister, Nancy Heath of Palatka; five grandchildren, Randall Spengler of Bostwick, Connie Parrish of Bostwick, Amber McElroy and Robert De Loach, both of Waynesville, Georgia, and William De Loach of Brunswick, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be today, 11 a.m. at the Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Rev. Keith Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Bostwick Cemetery.
