Actor. He shall be remembered for his TV roles as 'Sergeant Joe Broadhurst' in "McCloud" (1970 to 1977), and as 'Colonel Tigh' in "Battlestar Galactica' (1977 to 1978). Born John Everett Carter, he had extensive education at Hunter College, Boston University- School of Communication, U.C.L.A.- School of Theatre, Film & Television, and Northeastern University from where he received his degree in Communications. Carter made his professional debut in the Broadway production "Mrs. Patterson" (1954 to 1955) which starred Eartha Kitt and during that period, he made his initial appearance on TV in an episode from the program "Playwrights '56." Carter became one of the earliest African Americans to have a recurring role when he was cast as 'Private Sugie Sugarman' in the series "The Phil Silvers Show" (1955 to 1959). In addition to acting, Carter served as a news anchorman in Boston during the 1960s giving him the distinction as being the first African American to accomplish this feat.
