Mrs. Mary Jane Durrance Hancock died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Minton, on Emmett street, on Monday afternoon after a long and lingering illness. Mrs. Hancock had been a resident of Putnam county for a great number of years, having settled at Bostwick with her husband, the late John Hancock, in pioneer days. She is survived by three sons, R. J. Hancock, Clerk of the Putnam County Circuit Court, Perry Hancock, until recently County Commissioner of Putnam County, of Bostwick, and one other. Also by four daughters, Mrs. J. C. Williams and Mrs. J. K. Glisson of Bostwick, Mrs. W. H. Minton of Palatka and Mrs. Rosa Thomas of Kissimmee.
To all who knew her, Mrs. Hancock was "Grandma Hancock." She had endeared herself to all by the sweetness of her disposition, by her sterling Christian character and by the patience and faith that characterized the trying hours of her last illness. She was a member of the Baptist Church for upwards of forty years.
The funeral services were conducted at Bostwick by the Rev. R. L. Bonsteel, Tuesday morning. Arrangements were in the hands of Mooney and Davis.
The sympathy of the entire community is with the bereaved family. (Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 15 Jun 1917.)
