Leonard was the husband of Gwendolyn Louise (Garrett) Crain. They married 11 Apr 1949 in Columbus, Ga and had 10 children.

OBITUARY:SFC (Ret.) Leonard David Crain, Sr. September 8, 1927- October 20, 2007 COLUMBUS, GA— SFC Retired Leonard D. Crain, Sr. , 80, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Vista Care Hospice. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 22, 2007 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Brad Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with full military honors. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 4:00 Ð 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA. Mr. Crain was born September 8, 1927 in Taylor County, GA. He was the son of the late William David Lafette Crain and Emmer Lee Claridy Crain. He served 21 years in the United States Army, to include duty stations in Germany and Korea. He retired from the Army in 1967. Upon his retirement, he was owner/operator of L. D. Crain and Son's Upholstery. His employment career also included positions in the textiles, retail furniture, food service and snack vending industries. He was a Thirty Second Degree Mason, Ft. Benning Lodge #579, Past President of Columbus/Ft. Benning Shrine Club (1977), and a Charter Member of the Hijinx Shrine Clown Unit (1968). He very much enjoyed his work to help crippled children. Mr. Crain was a member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church. Mr. Crain is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Gwendolyn L. Crain of Columbus; ten children and their husbands and wives, Linda Riley (Don) of Phenix City, AL, Leonard D. Crain, Jr. (Brenda), Harry Crain (Patty), Larry Crain (Lucille), Michael Crain (Suzie), Theresa Starns (Greg), Carol Noell (Stephen), Gwen Pigg (Ronny), Dan Crain (Janice) all of Columbus, and Ricky Crain (Monica) of South Port, FL; 48 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
