Staff Sergeant Caldwell, of Spokane, Washington, 2001 graduate of Cheney High School. Chad joined the United States Army in February 2002 and was was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based at Fort Hood, Texas. Previously based in Louisiana, he served a tour of duty in Afghanistan, his first tour in Iraq from 2003-2004 and was deployed again in November 2007. Chad had been featured in a couple of publications this year. In March he was interviewed and photographed for Stars and Stripes, and a photo of him playing golf was featured in USA Today newspaper in March, and in April he was in the Christian Science Monitor. A father of two small boys, he died in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries suffered while conducting dismounted combat operation. Chad's decorations and awards include the Army Commendation with distinguishing devise, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Award, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge and Driver/Mechanic Badge. He is survived by his wife Raechel, sons Trevor and Coen, of Maumelle, AR; mother Carol Caldwell, brother Justin and sister Krista all of Spokane; father Mark Caldwell, half-brother Bryson and step-sister Hannah all of Hayden Lake. He also leaves behind his two grandfathers, several aunts, uncles, cousins, Jamie, Michelle and Savannah Stell and many dear friends.
