Roman Catholic Cardinal. Montefalco born Aristide Rinaldini entered the Vatican Seminary at an early age, later furthering his studies at the Almo Collegio Capranica and the Pontifical Gregorian University from where he obtained a doctorate in philosophy and a licentiate in theology. Ordained priest in June 1868 in Rome, he was soon appointed secretary of the apostolic nunciature of Portugal where he remained until 1872, when he was named secretary of nunciature in Belgium, of which he eventually also served as chargé d'affaires and auditor. Remaining in Belgium as private agent after the liberal cabinet of Walthère Frère Orban broke diplomatic relations with the Holy See and nuncio Serafino Vannutelli left for Rome, he was named chargé d'affaires when the named relations resumed. Protonotary apostolic 'ad instar participantium', he was named internuncio in Holland on August 26, 1887 and later internuncio in Luxembourg on January 1891. He also served as substitute of the Secretariat of State of the Vatican City between May 31, 1893 and 1896. Elected archbishop of the titular see of Eraclea di Europa and named apostolic nuncio in Belgium, he received his episcopal consecration on August 30, 1896 in the church of San Agostino, Rome, from Cardinal Mariano Rampolla del Tindaro, Secretary of State. Appointed apostolic nuncio in Spain on December 28, 1899, Pope Pius X created him cardinal priest in the consistory of April 15, 1907 with the title of San Pancrazio. Camerlengo of the Sacred College of Cardinals between December 2, 1912 and May 25, 1914, the Cardinal died in Rome and was buried in the chapel of the Vatican Chapter at the local Campo Verano Cemetery.
