George H. Austin, 58, of Hastings, died Friday, April 25, 2008 at his home. Born in Gouverneur, he had lived in Hastings for the past 28 years. He had worked at Cooper/Crouse Hinds Co., Syracuse for 35 years and was a US Marine Veteran, who had served in Vietnam. George was a member of the Hastings-Parish VFW Post, the Hastings Volunteer Fire Dept. and the I.B.E.W. local #2084 of Syracuse. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, the former Barbara McDowell; two daughters, Terrie Schneider and Georgia Austin, both of Hastings; five grandchildren, Harley, Austin, Hunter, Adian and Parker; four sisters, Sarah McBroom and Eva Austin, both of Gouverneur, Nora Finley of Star Lake and Elsie Fifield of Ogdensburg; three brothers, Arthur and Alloisius, both of Fine and Tarz of Ogdensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the WATSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 631 So. Main St., Central Square. There are no services. Contributions should be made to either the Hastings Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Hastings-Parish VFW Post, both of Hastings, NY 13076.
