A veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II, Gerard was part of the first wave of the storming of Normandy. He received the Silver and Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts during his tours of duty. He worked for IBM in Kingston as a Hardware Engineer until retirement. Gerard was a life member of both the VFW Post 1386 and the American Legion Post 150.
