Professional High Jumper, Olympic Athlete. He represented his home country of Peru. He was born as Roberto Nicolás Abugattás Aboid in Mollendo, Peru, but went by the name Roberto Abugattás. He was a professional high jumper in the sport of Athletics who participated in the 1964 Summer Olympics which were held at the National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan, from October 10, 1964, to October 24, 1964, and at the 1968 Summer Olympics at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Mexico City, Mexico, from October 12, 1968, to October 27, 1968. He won no medals in those events but had a Position of 26 r1/2 in 1964, and a Position of 35 r1/2. He also participated in the 1963 Pan American Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from April 20, 1963, to May 5, 1963, coming in sixth place, and in the 1967 Pan American Games which were held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, from July 23, 1967, to August 6, 1967, coming in the 3rd place. He won a Bronze Medal for both events. He also participated in a FISU World University Game where he was awarded a Bronze Medal. He also became world champion in the high jump in the Masters Category in 2011. He was known by the nicknames of "Kangaroo" and "Pacho." He passed away on January 11, 2024, just one week before his 81st birthday. His brother Fernando Abugattás also participated in high jumping athletic events at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico, but was awarded no medal.
