Edith Louise Roberson was born March 26, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa to William E. Spriggs and Ruth Maxfield Spriggs. She was the youngest of six children and grew up with four brothers and a sister: Thurman Edward, William Henry, Garland Maxfield, Ruth Evelyn and Lacey Daniel.
After graduating from East High School in Des Moines in 1947 she found work as a nurse aide and an elevator operator. She later attended the American Institute of Business and became a secretary in the public school system.
In February 1953 she married William J. Roberson and moved with him to Iowa City, Iowa while he attended medical school. She worked in the registrar's office at the university in the Veterans Service division.
After moving to Washington D.C., she worked for the government as a clerk/stenographer until their return to the Midwest in 1964 to Flint, Michiganwhere they would soon start a family with a son, Craig and a daughter, Dana.
She returned to school, attending Mott Community College where she studied and lived up to her H.S. yearbook desire of becoming a registered nurse.
Edith was committed to working with the non-profit charity organization known as Love Inc. in Genesee County Michigan that partnered with local churches to help the working poor, low income and less fortunate.
She was a lover of good stories and never tired of filling her children's imaginations with tales of her childhood in Iowa and more. In the ever changing age of technology; friends and family could still expect a hand written letter or card with words of encouragement and love. Quick to say she hadn't mastered card games, she regularly defeated competitors with humor, class and humility. She enjoyed travel, quilting, reading, gardening and playing the piano. Her compassion, grace and beauty will be missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, older brothers William H. and Garland M., a younger bother Aaron who died in infancy, sister Ruth E. Turner, and her husband of 52 years, William. She will be greatly missed by her son, Craig (wife Tara), of Cleveland, OH; daughter Dana Johnson (Joseph) of New York, NY; brothers Thurman E. and Lacey D. and five grandchildren, Schneta Roberson of Dallas, TX; Craig II and Meredith Roberson of Flint, MI; Sophie and Phoebe Johnson of New York, NY, her loving companion Ware Collins and numerous family and friends.
