Julita Afable Obituary
Our brave and loving nanay, Julita Austria Afable, sadly passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, after years of battle with dementia. She was 84 years old.

Julita was kind, generous, and immensely talented. Born and raised in the Philippines, our nanay was an accomplished seamstress. She eventually built a successful business creating beautiful curtains and upholsteries for homes, hotels, and office buildings. In 1985, she migrated with her family to America to join her mother and siblings. It is here that Julita extended her talents. Anyone who truly knows our nanay will tell you that she can bring any dying plant back to life. She was our own plant whisperer. She was also a great cook. Extended families who came into her home always knew they would be treated to a great meal and a packed food for lunch would be set aside to take home. Like a true nurturer, she also took care of her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Lastly, our nanay was fiercely loyal to those who ever had the pleasure to get close to her. She never wanted to miss an opportunity to meet new people. In return, she developed so many friendships throughout her life. She loved life and she lived it the best way she knew how.

Julita was preceded by our tatay, Renato Afable, and our sister Josefina Afable. She is survived by her 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Wake will be held at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg from 2-4pm on Monday, 12/11. The funeral service will be at St. Martin of Tours Church in Gaithersburg at 11am on Tuesday, 12/12, and burial will follow immediately after at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
