Johann Peter Schindel, s/o Johann Conrad and Susanna (Trexler) Schindel, was born in Airlenbach (Beerfelden), Hessen, Germany. He immigrated to PA on the ship Neptune on Sept. 24, 1751, living (and marrying) first in Lancaster, Lancaster Co., then moving to Lebanon, Lancaster Co., when it was called Steitztown. By trade he was a blue dyer. He married Anna Margaretta Gephardt Oct. 24, 1758, in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster. From then on they proceeded to have 9 children, most born in Lebanon, the last one born in 1783. They were charter members of Salem Lutheran Church and were buried in the church's graveyard then reinterred at Mt. Lebanon at a later date.
