Military figure. Mariano de los Santos Martí y Navarro, a distinguished member of the Artillery Corps during the 1840s, relocated to Havana in 1850 after serving in his hometown. Notable for his role against Narciso López's expedition, he married Leonor Pérez Cabrera in 1852. Despite holding various positions in Cuba, including artillery sergeant, party captain, and ship recognizer, he faced financial challenges. His life included journeys to Spain and British Honduras for health reasons, accompanied by his son. Mariano served as a local judge in Ciénaga de Zapata with his son as a scribe. After his son's deportation, he resigned as a neighborhood guardian in Guanabacoa. Facing persecution, Mariano journeyed to Mexico in June 1874, seeking a reunion with his son. He secured a supply contract for the Mexican army, overcoming economic hardships. He briefly resided in New York under his son's care. He passed away in Havana on February 2, 1887. His life was marked by dedication to family and support for his renowned son, José Martí.
