Jewel Woodliff was my grandfather. He died before I was born so I never got to know him. He was the son of John Wesley Woodliff and Nancy Elizabeth Crawley.

He was the second youngest of eight children. His siblings were Mary Adelma, Winston Green, Christopher Columbus, Arstella, Ollie Bell, and Elzora Ellen. He had one younger sister, Ethel Nevada, that died at the age of 15 from burns she suffered when her petticoat caught on fire.

He married Julia Josephine Lindsey on May 21, 1921 in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas.

He served in World War I, a Private of Battery F. 306th Field Artillery, United States Army. He was inducted April 1, 1918 at Batesville, AR to serve for the period of the emergency and was honorably discharged 5/21/19 by reason of demobilization. Character: Excellent. Service overseas in France.

He was survived by his wife, Julia, and seven children, Estelle, Lucille, Leneal, J. C., Eula Jo, John and George. (George was only three days old when he died)
