Peter Bates, of 331 North Locust Street, Palmyra, died Wednesday night at his home following an illness of several days. Death was due to complications. He was aged 76 years. Mr. Bates was a member of the Lutheran faith, and came to Palmyra in 1919. He was born at East Hanover, the son of the late Joseph and Lavina Bates. In his early manhood he was engaged as a farmer. Surviving are his wife, Mary (nee Rhen), and seven children: Mrs. Howard Levan, of Paxtang; Mason Bates, of Palmyra; Mrs. A. Lukens, of Duncannon; Peter Bates, Jr., and Mary I., both of Rutherford Heights; William, of Steelstown, and Mrs. John Landis, at home. Thirteen grandchildren and three brothers Joseph, of Green Point; Thomas, of Columbia, and Jeremiah, of Reading, also survive. [Lebanon Daily News, December 30, 1932, Page 9]
