Roy moved his family from St. John to Thomas County in March of 1931 where he farmed until his retirement in 1964. He and his wife Frances moved to Colby at that time.
He was active for many years in community affairs which included school boards, the extension council, state and local soil conservatin board, draft board, Thomas County Democratic Chairman, and a present member of the Federal Land Bank board. He served in the Kansas legislature during 1959 and 1960. Roy was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Consistory and the Shrine.
He was laid to rest in Beulah Cemetery with Masonic grave side services after services were conducted by Rev. Paul L. Irwin of Atwood from the Harrison Chapel
