Gaffney, SC - - Charles Ken Blanton, 82, of 110 Price Lane, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late Colus Franklin Blanton and Willie Mae Johnson Blanton. He was first married to the late Rebecca Price Blanton and was also previously married to Rita Culbertson Pate. He retired from York Electric Cooperative, was a U. S. Army veteran and attended both Macedonia Baptist Church and Fairview Baptist Church.

Charlie was a retired NASCAR Winston Cup and Stock Car series race car driver from the late 1960s until 1983. One of his more notable non-Winston Cup Services performances was at the 1971 Florida Citrus 250, a NASCAR Grand American Services event where Charlie finished in fourth place. Charlie did exceptionally well on dirt tracks. He won the 1973 Daytona ARCA 300 race and he finished second to David Pearson at the 1972 Bold City 200 in Jacksonville, Florida. His primary car in the NASCAR Cup Series would be the #59 Chevrolet and Charlie also drove the famous "Block 0" in his dirt track racing career. He was honored with a replica of his "Block 0" car last year in the JD Motorsports Throw-Back Car race. One of Charlie's celebrity appearances in print was on the January 1970 issue of Popular Mechanics.

Surviving are two sons, Charles (Chase) Ken Blanton, III and wife, Jenna of York and Charles (Chuck) Ken Blanton, Jr. of California; three daughters, Kim Charlene Blanton Tucker of Cumming, GA, Tracie Renee Blanton Moon of Gaffney and Brittany Blanton Nichols and husband, Jeffrey of Blacksburg; two brothers, Donald Blanton of Gaffney and Kenneth "Bud" Blanton, of Tennessee; three sisters, Vera Phillips and husband, Eckles, Betty Harrington and Diane Sprouse, all of Gaffney; nine grandchildren, David Crow and wife, Allison, Lyndsay Goeckeritz and husband, Rex, Nicholas Tucker, Grable Moon, Tristan Blanton, Khya Nichols, Naomi Nichols, Keturah Perez and Carrie Blanton-Marroquin; four great-grandchildren, Isaac Crow, Thane Goeckeritz, Liam Pringle and Isaiah Pringle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Blanton.
