Gary Conklin, 88, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at The Gardens of St. Francis where he resided.
He was born October 22, 1934 in Fremont, Ohio to Walter "Jack" and Leone (Bauer) Conklin.
Originally from Fremont, Ohio, Gary's family moved to Toledo in 1944. He attended Woodward High School and graduated in 1952 before joining the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict, and honorably discharged. He married Irene E. (Schroeder) on October 17, 1959. Gary was an electrician IBEW Local # 8. He was a caring father, and a frugal man; he taught his children the value of the dollar.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dennis Conklin, Lisa (David) Mruzek, Christopher and Matthew (Ksenija) Conklin; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene; parents, Jack and Leone; infant daughter, Christina; brother, Duane Conklin; and sisters, Jeanne Stark and Nadine Conklin.
Visitation will be Friday, August 11, 2023 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, Ohio 43611. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 5153 N. Summit St., Toledo, Ohio 43611. Interment will take place privately in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fremont, Ohio at a later date.
