Cyrus was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on February 18th, 1897, son of the late Marion Alvin Stone and Linnie Ellen "Lena" Girdler Stone. He was a plumber and a service man for the Kentucky Water Service Dept. He knew all the old wives tales and home remedies. He helped many sick people with roots and herbs, set broken bones and even pulled teeth. He was a farmer and would walk from his home on Clifty Road to downtown Somerset, several miles away just about every day. Cyrus would always have candy and gum for his grandchildren whom he loved with all of his heart. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Cyrus was survived by one daughter, Evelyn (and Talbert) Foster of Cambridge City, Indiana; five sons, Jessie M. (and Faye) Stone, Herbert M. (and Anna Mae) Stone, James E. (and Edna Joan) Stone, all of Somerset, Kentucky, Kenneth Ray (and Janet) Stone of Hagerstown, Indiana, and Richard (and Kathy) Cundiff of Somerset, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Sarah Foster Myers, Donald Foster, Peggy Foster, Nancy Foster, Wanda Foster, Jessie Ray Stone, Jeannie Stone, Margie Stone and Joey Stone; one great granddaughter, Vickie Ann Stevens; two sisters, Savannah "Florence" Stone King of Route #1, Somerset, Kentucky and Lucy "Irene" Stone Vaught of Route #1 Somerset, Kentucky; two brothers, Otto Stone of Tennessee and Orville Stone of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Alvin Stone, who departed this life on September 7th, 1937 and Linnie Ellen Stone, who departed this life on February 12th, 1931; his loving wife of 21 years, Mary Nancy Ziglar Stone, whom he married in Slate Branch, Kentucky on Friday, July 3rd, 1925 with Rev. Sebron F. Ashbrook officiating and who departed this life on December 11th, 1946.
The viewing for Cyrus Stone because of snow and bad weather was held in the home of his son, Herbert M. Stone. Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 7th, 1965 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Davis King officiating.
Burial followed in the Tanner Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky with the Somerset Undertaking Company in charge of the arrangements for Cyrus.
