Mrs. Helen R. (Neary) Madden, age 72, of Peabody, died Fri, Mar 28, at Union Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was the wife for 51 years of Francis J. Madden.

Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen (Egan) Neary.

She graduated from St. Mary's Girls High School, Lynn, Class of 1953. Helen then lived in Peabody for over 30 years.

In addition to her husband, she leaves 4 children, Ellen Madden of Peabody, Thomas Madden and his wife MaryAnne of Lynn, Richard Madden and his wife Anna of Salem, and Kathleen Zamejtis and her husband Edmund of Danvers; a brother Thomas Neary of Lynn; a sister Margaret Hines of Maine; 7 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late John, James, Leo and Mary Neary and Elizabeth A. "Bette" Nelson.

The funeral will be held on Tue at 9:30 am from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St, Lynn. Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, Lynn at 10:30 am. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visiting hours Mon 4-8 pm. Those who wish may make donations in Helen's memory to American Diabetes Assn., 330 Congress St, 5th Floor, Boston 02210.
