William Thomas Manning, known by most as "Bill," from El Reno, Okla., was 94 years old when he passed away peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Sept. 23, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Bill attended elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse south of present-day Banner School and graduated from El Reno High School in 1946.

Bill was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church (El Reno), where he married his wife, Laverne Kappus on Jan. 18, 1949.

Bill and Laverne raised their four children - Linda, Glenn, Gail and Janeen - on a farm in the Banner community. Together, they maintained a mixed crop-livestock operation with dairy cows, hogs, sheep, cattle, wheat, cotton and small grains, which Glenn continues to operate.

From 1950 to 1965, Bill harvested wheat from home to southern Nebraska. He also made trips across the United States through the livestock business, making many lifelong friends along the way.

Bill was a supporter of 4-H and FFA and often helped his children and grandchildren with their agriculture projects. He served for years on the local school board and district water board as well as president of the Oklahoma Hampshire Association.

Bill loved to hunt, and one of his greatest adventures was elk hunting in Colorado. He and Laverne also enjoyed taking horses to the mountains and trail riding with friends. Above all, Bill was in his element in the company of his family.

Bill is survived by his wife, Laverne of 74 years, as well as their daughter, Linda Maloney and her husband, Rick of Leedey; son, Glenn Manning and his wife, Reta of El Reno; daughter, Gail Rodabaugh and her husband, Chris of Dunkirk, Ohio; and daughter, Janeen Good and her husband, David of El Reno.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Danna Goss and her husband, Kent of Leedey; Craig Maloney and his wife, Kate of Hooker; Michele Lucky and her husband, Grant of Edmond; Kristi Allison and her husband, Nick of El Reno; Caleb Manning of El Reno; Chet Rodabaugh and his wife, Ashton of Winfield, W.Va.; Clint Rodabaugh and his wife, Kristin of Dunkirk; Cody Rodabaugh and Andrea of Dunkirk; Jason Good and his wife, Lanora of El Reno; Ryan Good of Yukon; and Jill Good of Yukon.

Bill was loved and will be missed by 34 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation for Bill is planned for Tuesday, April 4 at 5 p.m., with a prayer service to follow at 6:30 p.m. at Huber-Benson Funeral Home in El Reno. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in El Reno.

In remembrance of Bill's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School, 210 S. Evans, El Reno, Okla. 73036.
