Crossville Chronicle January 25, 1934

John Fields passed away at the home of his son, Ernest Fields, in the Lantana neighborhood Monday at 5 a.m. Had he lived until June 16th of this year, he would have reached his 86th birthday, as he was born June 16, 1848.
The remains were laid to rest in the Flynn's Cove cemetery Tuesday. Death was due to natural breakdown. He had suffered very little and passed away peacefully.
In 1871 he married Imoline Edwards, who died March 4, 1923. To this union were born 13 children, 5 of whom preceded him to the grave; 7 sons and 1 daughter survive:
Ernest, Elmer, Adam and McKinley reside in this county; William lives in Roland; Thomas a Campaign; and Ephraim in Arizona. One daughter, Mrs Martha Mercer, lives at Cold Springs in Bledsoe county. All were present at the funeral except the son in Arizona. He also leaves one brother, James, of Brotherton, Putnam county; 1 sister, Lee Ann Edwards, Nine Mile
Mr Fields lived most of his life in this county. His life had been a open book and was marked with deeds of kindness, honesty and those virtues that make for the highest type of citizenship.
All his life he was a farmer, and was one of the most successful in this county. A few years ago he moved to a farm at Nine Mile. Later he sold that farm and moved to Warren county and bought a farm, where he lived until he came to this county to pass his last days with his sons.
