▪︎Mother: Jessie Ruth (Kirkman) McElhaney 1940 - 2022

Born on March 26, 1959, in Carteret, North Carolina, John Allyson "Al" Mayo brought joy and love to the lives of his parents, Jessie Ruth Kirkman and Charles Donald Mayo. Al's journey began in the coastal town of Carteret, where all of them were born and he was raised alongside his younger brother, Donald Thomas Mayo in Alabama where they moved to be with their paternal grandparents.

In 1979, Al graduated Vigor High School and left his father's home in Alabama, seeking new experiences and adventures. He embarked on a path that led him to various places, each leaving an indelible mark on his life. Al resided in Reno, Nevada, from 1990 to 1993 and then found himself in the serene town of Forks, Washington, in 1994. Throughout his time away, Al maintained a strong bond with his brother, Donald Thomas, even when he was residing in San Francisco. Unfortunately, circumstances kept him apart from his mother, Jessie Ruth McElhaney, who was with her Georgia sister's friends in Florida for two decades.

In 1996, Al settled in Port Angeles, Washington, finding solace in the breathtaking landscapes and close-knit community. It was during this time that he found love and companionship with Anita Marie Bruyere. Their deep connection led them to tie the knot in Clallam, Washington, on March 17, 2003, when Al was 43 years old.

John Allyson Mayo was preceded in death by his father, Charles Donald Mayo, who passed away in 2002, and his paternal grandparents, Grover Thomas and Carrie Mayo of Alabama, maternal grandparents Jesse and Lillie (Marks) Kirkman of Carteret, N.C. and his Uncle Robert Thomas Mayo who passed away on Dec 13, 2005 of Alonzo Thomas Store in Mobile.

John Allyson "Al" is survived by his mother, Jessie Ruth McElhaney of Fla., brother Donald Thomas Mayo of N.C., step-brother Roger Elliot Coffey of Clinton, MI and numerous other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

John Allyson "Al" Mayo will be remembered for his free spirit, adventurous nature, and his ability to touch the lives of those he encountered. He had a knack for finding beauty in the simplest things and possessed a warm and kind-hearted nature that endeared him to many. Al's journey may have taken him far from home, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones.

As we bid farewell to John Allyson Mayo, let us remember the moments of joy he brought into our lives and find solace in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to live on in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
