Norman "Norm" Choate, age 90, of Grapeland passed away Friday, June 9, 2023 at his home. Norman was born December 1, 1932 in Baytown to parents, J. H. Choate and Ethel Lina Barrow Choate. He graduated from Robert E Lee High School in Baytown then served in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge. He also attended Lee College and worked for Shell Oil retiring after many years of service. He was a member of the Lifepointe Church in Crockett and attended the San Pedro Baptist Church. Norm loved his family and was a dedicated Christian man always willing to share the gospel.

Norman is survived by wife of 67 years, Janice Choate of Grapeland; daughter, Shelley Beard and husband, Randy of Grapeland; grandchildren, Ross Beard of Nacogdoches, Tiffany Macmanus and Mike Kassa of Phoenix City, Alabama, Ashley Stanfield and husband, Bryan of Groesbeck, Melanie Howard and fiancé, Drew Smith of Clarksville, Tennessee, Vance Beard and wife, Myranda of China Springs; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Gage, Kadence, Logan, Presley, Jackson, Albree, Aven; great-great-grandson, Ka'Iwa; sister, Wanda Black of Bryan; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by parents, Red and Ethel Choate.

Funeral services for Norman "Norm" Choate will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kip Gilts officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehead Cemetery. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
