Professional football player. He played seven seasons in the American Football League with the Denver Broncos (1963-1965) and Oakland Raiders (1966 to 1969). He also played one season (1970) for the Raiders in the National Football League. An outstanding back from Florida A&M University, Mr. Dixon was selected by the Broncos in the 1963 AFL draft and by the Pittsburgh Steelers in that year's NFL draft. He chose to sign with the Broncos. After playing mostly as a reserve for Denver, Hewritt was traded in early 1966 to Oakland in exchange for defensive lineman Archie Matsos. He became a starter and a key weapon rushing and receiving for the Raiders, helping them to win the 1967 AFL championship and a berth in the Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers. Dixon was a four-time all-star with Oakland. He died at a young age (52) from cancer.
